Two doctors and a Japanese-speaking IDF liaison officer arrived in Japan Sunday to survey the needs and see what Israel can contribute, Foreign Ministry officials said.
Along with this delegation, Israel – replying to particular Japanese requests – sent 150 portable restrooms, 10,000 winter jackets and 10,000 pairs of gloves. With the sanitation system in Japan in disarray as a result of the earthquake and tsunami, the Japanese government is keen on equipment that will improve the situation.
Israel is also sending hundreds of Geiger counters to measure the levels of radiation.
The equipment and small medical delegation is expected to be augmented in coming days by a larger delegation of doctors and nurses, and more equipment in accordance with Japanese requests.
